HC Deb 16 July 1963 vol 681 cc47-8W
Mr. Neave

asked the Minister of Transport whether he can yet make a statement about the independent committee which he intended to appoint to look into the licensing of road goods transport.

Mr. Marples

I am pleased to announce that Lord Geddes has accepted my invitation to act as chairman of the committee which, as 1 announced on 29th April, we intend to appoint to examine the fundamental bases and workings of the licensing of road haulage. The terms of reference of the Committee will be:

"In the light of present day conditions, to examine the operation and effects of the system of carriers licences first introduced by the Road and Rail Traffic Act 1933, and as subsequently modified by statute; and to make recommendations."
