asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the comparative figures of the number of immigrants entering and remaining in this country for the periods 1st January to 30th June, 1962, and 1st July to 31st December, 1962, being the six months before and six months after the Commonwealth Immigrants Act came into force.

In the six months ending 31st December, 1962, 183,416 Commonwealth citizens subject to control under Part I of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act were admitted to the country and 180,913 embarked, leaving a net inward balance of 2,503. The estimated net

*The first applications were received in mid-May, 1962, and the Table therefore covers a period of thirteen and a half months.

The number of vouchers used up to 30th June, 1963, was 14,680. At the same date 6,315 vouchers had been returned to my Ministry because their validity had expired or because the holders no longer required them.
