HC Deb 15 July 1963 vol 681 cc14-5W
Mr. Shinwell

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he will now ask Professor Allen's Committee on Revaluation to make an interim report, in view of the need to protect persons with small incomes who are called upon to meet increased rate charges arising from increased valuation and are unable to meet the new rating demands.

Sir K. Joseph

I understand that, try as it may, the Committee will not be able to present any report until some time next year.

Mr. Dudley Smith

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs, when he now expects to receive the report of the official inquiry into rating problems; and if he will publish the report in full, with a list of those who gave evidence.

Sir K. Joseph

I expect to receive the report of the Allen Committee some time next year. The Committee has a great deal of work to get through and I cannot at the present time be more precise. I intend to publish the report in full and it will no doubt include the customary information about the evidence which the Committee has received.
