§ Mr. Masonasked the Postmaster-General which areas of the country have wired relay television; if the experiments in pay television are to be confined to wired areas; and whether he is demanding in his licence requirements a minimum audience figure.
§ Mr. BevinsMost parts of the country contain some television relay networks although many of these are relatively small. In the main, existing networks are likely to be used for the pay television experiment, but some applicants envisage erecting new networks for the purpose. I should not propose to issue a licence for any area where there were not enough potential subscribers to enable valid results to be drawn from the experiment.
