§ Mr. ThorneycroftI should prefer at present not to add to what was said on this subject in paragraphs 17 and 18 of last year's Defence White Paper, where it was made plain that Her Majesty's Government had no long-term requirement for a military base in Africa and that alternative arrangements would be made to meet our commitments.
