HC Deb 02 July 1963 vol 680 c30W
57. Mr. W. Yates

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many members of the public were injured on Wednesday, 25th June, in Georgetown, British Guiana, when the police in and escorting Prime Minister Jagan's car opened fire; if he will make a statement; and if he will hold an inquiry.

Mr. Sandys

Four persons with confirmed bullet wounds reported to hospital but it is not known how many were injured in the incident in question.

Internal security is the responsibility of the Government of British Guiana. It would, therefore, not be appropriate for me to institute an inquiry.
