§ Mr. Masonasked the Minister of Defence if he will state the future role of the Royal Air Force V-bomber force within the new concept of a multilateral defence strategy which is mainly dependent upon Polaris submarines.
§ Mr. ThorneycroftThe V-bomber force, which will be suitably strengthened, will continue to contribute to a strategic deterrent until the Polaris submarines are available. The offer of V-bombers to N.A.T.O. is similarly designed to strengthen the alliance while at the same time preserving our own final independence of action.
