§ 58. Mr. Brewisasked the President of the Board of Trade what was the percentage increase in imports of pit-wood in 1962 over the previous year; and what steps he intends to take to encourage more use of home-grown pitwood.
§ Mr. GreenThe percentage increase in imports of pitwood, as recorded in the Trade and Navigation Accounts, in 1962 over the previous year was 20 per cent. by quantity and 19 per cent. by value. The sources from which the National Coat Board draws its supplies are entirely a matter for its own commercial judgment. It is understood, however, that the National Coal Board and the Forestry Commission are working closely together with a view to increased use of home-grown timber.
