§ Lord Balnielasked the Minister of Education what has been the total expenditure on education in Hertfordshire during each year since 1951; and how much has been borne by the taxpayer and ratepayer, respectively.
§ Sir E. BoyleThe following statement gives details of the total net expenditure on education incurred by the Hertfordshire Local Education Authority for the financial years 1951–52 onwards, and showing for the financial years up to and including 1958–59 the proportions met by Exchequer grants and by local rates.
Since the financial year 1959–60 the education service has been one of the services covered by general grant; it is not, therefore, possible to say how much of the total expenditure on education has been borne by the taxpayer and ratepayer, respectively.
