§ 48. Sir C. Osborneasked the President of the Board of Trade what negotiations 82W he has had with the Canadian Government for the reduction of tariffs against British exports which amount to 40 per cent. in some cases; since over the last 12 years Canada has sold goods worth £1,700 million more to Great Britain than she has bought from Great Britain, what new steps he proposes to take to get British exports a larger share of the Canadian market; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. ErrollWe are always in touch with the Canadian Government about problems affecting our trade. I am glad to learn that the Canadian Government have just announced the relaxation or removal of a number of tariff surcharges. This measure will benefit our trade and I hope that it will be followed soon by the removal of those which remain.
