asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what alternative employment is to be provided for the 300 Maltese employed at Hal Safi Royal Air Force airfield who have been served with redundancy notices.

The hon. Member may be thinking of the anticipated 300 discharges mentioned in the reply given by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Air on 21st November; only 84 redundancy notices in respect of these discharges have so far been issued.

The question of alternative employment is not in the first instance one for the United Kingdom Government.
