Mr. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what is the limit on the amount that can be spent by a 25W local authority on minor projects for the improvement of classified roads; and when was it fixed;
(2) what is the limit on the amount that can be spent by a local authority on major projects for the improvement of classified roads; and when was it fixed;
(3) what reply he has sent to the representations made by local authorities regarding the limits placed on expenditure on improvements of classified roads, on both minor and major projects.
§ Mr. NobleThe amount of work, major and minor, which can be carried out on classified roads is determined by the Exchequer grant available for approved schemes; and this in turn is determined by the proportion of the national resources which the Govern-26W ment consider can be devoted to the road programme in Scotland.
