HC Deb 18 December 1963 vol 686 c214W
60. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for War what are the respective rates of pay and allowances paid to members of the Royal Malta Artillery serving in the British Army of the Rhine compared with the rates of pay and allowances of comparable British forces serving in the British Army of the Rhine.

Mr. Ramsden

Maltese officers serving in the British Army of the Rhine receive the same rates as United Kingdom officers. Maltese soldiers serving in B.A.O.R. receive the usual rates of Maltese pay, plus an expatriation allowance which brings their total pay up to approximately scale B rate of United Kingdom pay.

They receive the same rate of local overseas allowance as United Kingdom Service men and the same marriage allowance where they are officially accompanied by their family; otherwise they receive the Maltese rate of marriage allowance.
