§ 43. Sir K. Thompsonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he is aware of the conditions at the Liverpool Temporary Accommodation centre at Lower Breck Road where 22 children have recently fallen victims to illness requiring hospital treatment; and, in view of the help he is giving to the London County Council to house homeless families, whether he will give similar help to Liverpool Corporation.
§ Sir K. JosephI understand from my right hon. Friend the Minister of Health that there was recently an outbreak of a mild form of dysentry at the Lower Breck Road centre. As a precautionary measure, 24 children were sent to hospital; 15 were found to be infected; four are still in hospital.
My Department is in close touch with the Liverpool City Council's drive to 177W increase housing provision, which alone can provide a satisfactory answer to the problems, of homelessness. I am glad to say that the council now has over 6,500 dwellings under construction or in tenders approved; and there is every reason to hope that its annual output of dwellings will increase steadily.
