HC Deb 12 December 1963 vol 686 cc121-2W
Captain Orr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much Government support was given directly or indirectly in 1962–63 1o the Arts Council of Great Britain; and what was the percentage increase over the 1961–62 figure.

Mr. M. Macmillan

In 1962–63 the Government grant-in-aid to the Arts Council was £2,190,000 (including £690,000 for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden). This is an increase of 25 per cent. over the 1961–62 figure.

In addition the Council's accounts are audited without charge by the Exchequer and Audit Department. The value of this service was about £1,500 in both years.
