40. Mr. A. Lewis

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works (1) on what grounds the dinner of the London Municipal Society on 20th November was considered to be of an official character;

(2) whether he is aware that four official cars with four drivers were used for a total of 5 hours, 4½ hours, 4 hours, 4 hours, respectively, on 20th November to take four members of the Government to and from a party political dinner connected with the winding-up of the London Municipal Society; and whether he will issue instructions that official cars should not be used for party political purposes of this kind.

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works, on what grounds the dinner given by the London Municipal Society on 20th November was treated by Her Majesty's Government as an occasion of an official character.

Mr. Rippon

The dinner of the London Municipal Society on 20th November was not a party political occasion and the four Members of the Government who attended and used their official cars were invited as Ministers.
