§ 97. Mr. Haleasked the Postmaster-General how many complaints have been received by the Post Office of delay in delivering parcels during the latest three months in respect of which figures are available.
§ Mr. MawbyWe estimate that in the three months August to October, 1963, well over 50 million parcels were posted and over the same period there were 5,000 complaints or about one for every 10,000 parcels posted over that period.
§ 98. Mr. Haleasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that increasing delay in the delivery of parcels by post has resulted in the almost complete cessation of the purchase by post of pork pies and other perishable commodities; and what action he proposes to take to improve the position.
§ Mr. MawbyI much regret the all too frequent delays in the delivery of parcels sent by post especially those containing perishable goods like pork pies. These delays occur mainly while the parcels are in transit on the railways. British Railways are very much alive to the need for an improvement in the service and are working with us in a sustained effort to secure it.
