HC Deb 04 December 1963 vol 685 c191W
Mr. Grimond

asked the Postmaster-General on what grounds he does not give official recognition to the National Guild of Telephonists, as representing its female telephonist members, in view of the fact that this union has been fully recognised as representing its male members since 1929.

Mr. Bevins

I went very fully into this matter in November, 1962, when I received representatives of the Guild to hear their case for recognition of the female-telephonist grade. I considered carefully what they said to me, but on balance I did not feel that it would be right to disturb the existing recognition held by the Union of Post Office Workers.
