§ Mr. Boydenasked the Minister of Education what progress he has now made in establishing departments of education in colleges of advanced technology.
§ Sir E. BoyleA number of the colleges of advanced technology have included in their plans for future development the establishment of departments of education, and my Department have made it clear in talks with representatives of the colleges that such proposals deserve careful and sympathetic study. They raise however many problems concerning, for example, the organisation of such departments, the type of courses they would provide, and their relationship with other institutions which provide professional training for teachers. A preliminary examination of these problems took place at a meeting held at the Ministry on 22nd July between some of the principals of the colleges of advanced technology and individuals with considerable experience in the teacher training field. It was agreed that study and consultation should continue.
