§ 45. Mrs. Hartasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what arrangements are made for the families of those remanded in custody or convicted and sent to prison to be informed.
§ Miss PikeAll prisoners on remand are allowed immediate and ample facilities for communicating by letter with their family and friends. All convicted and sentenced prisoners are allowed to write and receive a letter on reception into prison after sentence. When a person under the age of 21 years is received under sentence the Governor or Warden at once informs the next of kin in writing of the conviction and sentence.
