HL Deb 29 April 1963 vol 249 c76WA
THE EARL OF HARROWBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they could state the number of railway stations closed between 1914 and 1939, and between 1940 and the present day.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT (LORD CHESHAM)

Comprehensive information about numbers of stations closed in the years 1914–1947 is not available. Between 1948 and 1962 the number of stations at which passenger services were available fell by about 2,350. In this period about 1,850 stations were closed completely.

House adjourned at seventeen minutes past six o'clock.
