Mr. Awberyasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to give himself power to require the appointment of traffic wardens in large cities to control traffic, and to deal with minor motoring offences and car meters, and thus release the police for other duties.
§ Mr. WoodhouseI am sure that police authorities are aware of the desirability of employing traffic wardens wherever this would release police officers for other duties, and my right hon. Friend does not think that legislation on the lines proposed is necessary.
