§ Mr. Wingfield Digbyasked the Minister of Transport what is the total estimated road expenditure by local authorities for 1962–63; and what proportion of this he estimates will be met out of rates and out of direct expenditure, respectively.
§ Mr. HayWhen the local authorities submit their returns in a few months' time we shall know how much they have spent on roads in 1962–63 and how much of it has been met from Central Government funds. But for the rest it will not be possible to distinguish between rates and the local authorities' other sources of income. Their expenditure from all sources is expected to be of the order of £155 million.
