Mr. John MacLeod

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works when he will he appointing a working party to inquire into the different systems and practices in the construction industries in Scotland.

Mr. Rippon

In consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland I have appointed a working party with the following terms of referenceTo examine the significant differences between the organisation and practices for building and civil engineering in Scotland and those in England and Wales, and to make recommendations with a view to promoting greater efficiency.

Mr. W. McEwan Younger, D.S.O., D.L., has agreed to be Chairman. The other members will be:

  • Mr. P. A. Barns-Graham, C.A.
  • Mr. Stuart Clink, F.R.I.B.A., F.R.I.A.S.
  • Mr. A. G. Jury, C.B.E., F.R.I.B.A., F.R.I.A.S., F.R.S.H.
  • Mr. A. H. Macdonald, M.B.E.
  • Mr. G. L. Orchard, O.B.E., F.R.I.C.S.
  • Mr. Alex Sim, M.I.C.E.
  • Mr. E. R. Webster, F.R.I.C.S.

Mr. R. A. S. Jamieson, F.R.I.C.S., of the Ministry of Public Building and Works, and Mr. J. C. Tait, F.R.I.C.S., of the Scottish Development Department, will act as Assessors. The Joint Secretaries will be Mr. J. Kerr of the Scottish Development Department, York Buildings, Queen Street, Edinburgh, 2, and Mr. A. I. D. Macdonald, A.R.I.B.A., of the Ministry of Public Building and Works, 122, George Street, Edinburgh, 2.

Mr. Stuart Clink wild also be a member of the Committee on Contracts—announced in my Answer to a Question by the hon. Member far Coventry, South (Mr. Hocking) today. This will enable the Committee to take the findings of the working party into its consideration.

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works whether he is yet in a position to announce the setting up of the committee on the placing and management of building and civil engineering contracts which he has promised.

Sir Harold Banwell has accepted my invitation to serve as Chairman of this Committee. The other members will be:
