Mr. Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many police have been employed, and what has been the total cost to public funds, in regard to demonstrations held in London protesting against the Chinese invasion of India.

Mr. Brooke

Four policemen carried our their normal duties in connection with a demonstration in protest against the Chinese aggression against India. No additional cost fell on public funds.

Mr. Jeger

Mr. Brooke

About 4,800 policemen were employed in connection with demonstrations about Cuba held in London during the period 23rd October 12th November. It is estimated that additional expenditure on overtime amounted to between £1,000-£1,500.
