56. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Minister of Health what is the total number of senior hospital medical officers currently employed in the National Health Service; how many are doing consultant work and receiving consultant pay; and if their association is a body recognised as competent to give evidence direct to the remuneration review body.

Mr. Braine

One thousand, nine hundred and twenty-two at 30th September, 1961; 748 were doing consultant work and in receipt of the special allowance. On the last Question I would refer the hon. Member to my right hon. Friend's reply to him on 16th November.
