HC Deb 20 November 1962 vol 667 cc114-5W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what investigations he has made or plans to make into the effect which nuclear tests have had on public health both in the United Kingdom and abroad; and if he will issue a White Paper giving details of the nature and result of those investigations.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

The Medical Research Council is supporting a wide programme of research on the effects of radiation including those from low doses such as may be produced by world wide fall-out. Similar research is in progress in many other countries. The second Report of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation, published in September this year, gives a comprehensive account of present knowledge on the subject, and no purpose would be served by the publication of a White Paper at this stage.
