HC Deb 20 November 1962 vol 667 c117W
75. Mr. R. Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what were the reasons given for their resignations by Mr. H. S. Husseiny, Aden Minister for Education and Information, Mr. A. S. Basendwah, Aden Minister of Health and Mr. A. A. Saffi, Aden Minister of Electricity.

Mr. Sandys

Before the recent debate, Mr. Husseiny informed me that he and other Adeni Ministers would resign unless the merger plan which these Ministers had recommended last August was postponed. At the same time he informed me that he and other Ministers had been subjected to intimidation by opponents of merger. No other Ministers have in fact resigned; and I wish to pay my tribute to them far the steadfast manner in which they are holding to their opinions despite the improper pressures upon them.
