§ 47. Mr. McMasterasked the Minister of Aviation what conclusions have been reached following evaluation research with the Short SC1; and what further developments of multijet vertical take-off and landing aircraft are planned in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. AmeryExperience with the SC1 research aircraft has provided valuable data on the basic aerodynamic and piloting problems of V.T.O.L. aircraft.
The hon. Member will be aware that the multi-jet solution has since been adopted for certain fighter aircraft abroad.
We are inclined to believe that such a solution is more appropriate to transport aircraft and is likely to have important applications in that field.
At present, however, we have no firm plans for the development of a multi-jet V.T.O.L. aircraft in the United Kingdom.
