HC Deb 19 November 1962 vol 667 cc94-5W
71. Mr. Ronald Bell

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what is the greatest height reached by any building which he proposes to erect for the new Post Office headquarters on the site bounded by St. Martin's-le-Grand, Newgate Street and King Edward Street; and what is the approximate horizontal distance of this highest building from the nearest point of St. Paul's Cathedral.

Mr. Rippon

Consultations are at present proceeding between my Department and the local planning authority, the London County Council, about the form which a building erected on this site for the Post Office might take. Until these consultations are completed it is not possible to give an answer to my hon. Friend's specific Question. I have well in mind that the form of this building, and its height, must be carefully considered in relation to St. Paul's Cathedral.
