HC Deb 12 November 1962 vol 667 c13W
Sir Richard Glyn

asked the Minister of Defence whether he will discontinue the practice of granting discharges to members of the Armed Forces wishing to contest Parliamentary elections; and whether he will take such steps as may be necessary to enable such candidates to contest elections while on special leave for that purpose, as was done in 1945, and not to be discharged unless elected.

Mr. Thorneycroft

I am considering the solution proposed by my hon. Friend.
