Mr. Iremonger

asked the Minister of Transport when he expects to receive from Messrs. Brian Colquhoun and Partners their report on the project for a flyover crossing at Gants Hill.

Mr. Marples

I expect to receive the consulting engineers' report in the late summer or early autumn of 1963.

Mr. Iremonger

asked the Minister of Transport if he will make a statement about his plans for relieving traffic congestion at Gants Hill Roundabout, Ilford; what steps he is taking to ensure that local residents whose property may be disturbed are fully informed of their rights to compensation at the earliest possible date; and at what stage he intends holding discussions with the Ilford Borough Council.

Mr. Marples

Improvement of the Gants Hill roundabout at Ilford will require a flyover. I have appointed Messrs. Brian Colquhoun and Partners as consulting engineers and their report is not expected until late summer or early autumn of next year. I shall not be able to make a statement on my plans until the consulting engineers' report has been studied. Particulars of property affected must await the preparation of detailed plans, and this will not be before 1964. The local authorities concerned will be consulted when the consulting engineers' report is being considered.
