HC Deb 09 November 1962 vol 666 c97W
Mr. Boyden

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty how many boys and girls aged 15 to 18 years in his Department arc currently attending day release classes; and what proportion this forms of the total number of juveniles in the Department.

Mr. C. Ian Orr-Ewing

The Admiralty employs some 4,060 juveniles under the age of 18 of whom 2,660 are apprentices. Apprentices do not attend day release classes as such but 2,230 are attending dockyard technical colleges and a small number attend other technical colleges.

Of the 1,400 who are not apprentices, 600 are non-industrial and 800 are industrial. About 540 of these attend day release classes.

Thus of juveniles under the age of 18 about 68 per cent. attend day release classes or receive other forms of further education.
