asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many maternity beds have been provided during the past three years; and what is the percentage of births in hospital, giving the figures for each regional hospital board.

In the three years up to September, 1962, 170 additional maternity beds were brought into use in hospitals in Scotland. The percentage of births in hospitals and nursing homes during 1961—the latest period for which complete returns are available—was:
