§ Captain Kerbyasked the Secretary of State for War how many full-bore rifle ranges under War Department and/or Territorial Army control existed in 1950; how many have since been closed as part of a Government economy measure; how many others have been closed because they provided an insufficient safety-zone to meet the needs of 7.62 mm. ammunition; and how many that do meet the needs of that ammunition remain.
§ Mr. ProfumoMy Department and the Territorial Army controlled 259 full bore open classification ranges in the United Kingdom in 1950. 81 ranges have since been given up, but none because of the requirements of 7.62 mm. ammunition. There remain 178 ranges, all of which meet the needs of 7.62 mm. ammunition.
