§ 64. Sir D. Robertsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in locating new fishing grounds; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. SoamesExploratory voyages have been made to areas in the North Atlantic not normally fished by conventional British trawlers, but which are within their commercial range, and the results have been passed on to the industry. Although stocks of fish have been found, it does not look at the moment as if the potentialities of these areas are comparable with the grounds traditionally fished by British vessels. Further exploratory voyages particularly to more distant grounds are being considered. The working of these, of course, depends very much on the development of freezing at sea.
