HC Deb 05 November 1962 vol 666 cc32-3W
84. Mr. Nabarro

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science what has been the total capital cost to date of the enriched uranium plant of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority at Capenhurst; why the plant is being closed down, and when; and whether he will make a statement as to the future of the project and of the Capenhurst establishment.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

For security reasons I cannot disclose the cost of the Capenhurst plant.

The plant is not being closed down. Its output will be reduced to the minimum level necessary to keep it in production and available to meet any future increase in demand for civil and military purposes. The run-down to this minimum level will be made gradually and not completed before the end of 1963.
