Lewisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs whether he is aware that during the past twelve months the £ sterling has depreciated by 1s. 1d.; and to what extent housing subsidies and financial grants to local authorities would have to be increased to compensate for this fall in the purchasing value of the £ sterling.
§ Mr. RipponGrants are not related to retail prices but are adjusted as necessary. Housing subsidies were increased by the Act of 1961 and may now be as high as £40 per house if the tests are satisfied. Increase orders have been154W made for general grant. The percentage grants adjust themselves automatically.
