HC Deb 28 May 1962 vol 660 cc90-1W
Mr. Scott-Hopkins

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will now make a statement on the future of the hill cow and hill sheep subsidies after 1963.

Mr. Soames

The present powers expire in November, 1963, but it is the Government's intention to seek powers for a further four years from that date to continue to pay subsidy on hill sheep and hill cows. I hope to make a further statement in the autumn.

The Government are giving wider consideration to future assistance to hill and upland areas, taking into account suggestions already made by the farmers' and landowners' organisations.
