HC Deb 14 May 1962 vol 659 c96W
61. Mr. Boyden

asked the Parliamentary Secretary for Science, in view of the below average expenditure by universities on dental research, what steps he is taking to secure that adequate funds and staff are made available for dental research outside the universities in future.

Mr. Denzil Freeth

The Medical Research Council are already supporting a programme of dental research and have recently set up a new unit at Bristol University. They will continue to take every opportunity of expanding their activities in this field. Generous funds for the support of dental research are also made available by the Nuffield Foundation.

As regards the universities, I am informed that the University Grants Committee is paying particular attention to the development of teaching and research in the dental schools during the next quinquennium.
