§ Mr. MarplesMinisters, Ambassadors and officials representing ten European maritime Powers had a valuable meeting in London on 3rd May, 1962. The following is the text of an agreed statement issued at the end of the meeting.
- 1. Ministers together with Ambassadors and officials responsible for shipping in Belgium, Denmark, France, the Federal Republic of
49 Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom met in London on 3rd May, 1962, under the chairmanship of the Right Hon. Ernest Marples, M.P., Minister of Transport of the United Kingdom. - 2. On the basis of a report prepared by officials since their meeting on 6th March, 1962, the meeting had a useful further exchange of views concerning the problems resulting from the exercise by the United States Government of their regulatory powers affecting international shipping.
- 3. At the meeting on 6th March the Governments agreed to proceed collectively. Today, in considering further collective action, a wide measure of agreement was reached and substantial further progress was made.
- 4. The meeting arranged for certain further studies to be carried out and agreed to meet again when these studies were completed.
