HC Deb 04 May 1962 vol 658 cc165-6W
Mr. Morris

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance how many insured workers employed at the Steel Company of Wales, Port Talbot, were required to go for medical examination by his Department's doctors after being certified unfit for work by their own doctors in the months of October and November, 1961, and 1960, respectively; and what was the longest period before benefit was ultimately paid.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Claimants for sickness benefit are not examined by doctors of my Department and I assume the hon. Member has in mind examinations by Welsh Board of Health doctors. The information asked for is not available but I will write to the hon. Member giving such figures as can reasonably be obtained.
