asked the Minister of Labour to what extent unemployment in the development districts in Scotland has been reduced since the coming into operation of the Local Employment Act: and how the percentage decrease compares with the reduction for Scotland as a whole in the same period.

Mr. Hare

There has been a reduction of 5,521, or 8.4 per cent., in the Scottish development districts, compared with a reduction of 6.9 per cent. in Scotland as a whole.
