HC Deb 02 May 1962 vol 658 cc148-9W
Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Postmaster-General what are his present plans for reducing the charges for telephone calls.

Mr. Bevins

I have announced several reductions in call charges in the last two years, and the extension of Subscriber Trunk Dialling brings with it a lower general scale of call charges. I estimate that the charges to our customers for S.T.D. calls in 1962–63 will be £7 million below what they would be for the same number of calls at the old tariffs.
