§ Mr. HareBecause of the considerable differences in construction of the Cost of Living Index, which was calculated between 1914 and June, 1947, and the Retail Prices Indices, which 143W have been calculated since June, 1947, it is not possible to link the two series in order to measure the increase in the cost of living between April 1927 and March 1962. The Cost of Living Index rose by about 23 per cent. between April, 1927, and June, 1947, and the Retail Prices Indices rose by about 81 per cent. between June, 1947, and March, 1962.
