47. Mrs. Butlerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consideration he has given to difficulties encountered both by traders and the public in relation to half-day closing orders; and what action he intends to take to revise present arrangements.
§ Mr. Fletcher-CookeA half-day closing order can be made only with the approval of a majority of the shopkeepers affected, and steps can be taken for revocation of an order which no longer meets with such approval. On present information my right hon. Friend is not convinced of the need for amending legislation.
