Sir O. Prior-Palmer

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated initial cost of raising all non-industrial civil service pensions of earlier date than 1st April, 1959, to the level of corresponding pensions of that date; and what is the estimated subsequent annual reduction in such cost.

Sir E. Boyle

£11 million in the first year, with an average annual reduction of about £½ million in the first five years. To apply this principle to the public services generally and the Armed Forces would cost £70 million in the first year.
