asked the Postmaster-General how many outstanding applications there were for telephones in the West Riding of Yorkshire at the last convenient date and how many there were on the corresponding date in 1957.

At the 31st December, 1961, there were 2,363 applications outstanding and a further 4,928 were under inquiry or in course of being met. The figures for 31st December, 1957, were 5,248 and 3,805 respectively.

In the past 12 months nearly 24,000 telephones were installed.
