§ Sir N. Cooper-Keyasked the Lord Privy Seal whether he is aware of the concern in this country regarding the implementation of the Slavery Conventions of 1926 and 1956; and whether he will ask the appropriate section of the United Nations Organisation to examine complaints of infringements of these Conventions.
§ Mr. HeathI am aware of the concern that has been expressed. Her Majesty's Government have demonstrated that they share this concern by their initiatives last year in the Economic and Social Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations, when we appealed to member States to become parties to the Slavery Convention and to co-operate in carrying out its terms.
No machinery has been set up to implement the provisions of the Convention or to examine infringement of its terms and the second part of the Question does not therefore arise.
