Captain Kerby

asked the Civil Lord of the Admiralty how many of Her Majesty's ships are not shown in the strength of the fleet table in the 1962–63 Explanatory Statement to the Navy Estimates; and which are in reserve awaiting disposal.

Apart from a few non-operational ships which are used for experimental or other special purposes, the strength of the fleet tables in the Explanatory Statement show all of Her Majesty's ships.

It is contrary to practice to reveal the number of ships in reserve awaiting disposal.
